Our partner ACE Aviation Aerospace Academy provides CASA-approved commercial drone training across Australia. The Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC) is included in its RePL course packages and helps remote pilots develop the communication skills required for operations involving aviation radio.

ACE combines online theory with face-to-face practical training and assessment, supported by experienced aviation and commercial drone instructors.

About the AROC

What exactly is an AROC?

AROC stands for Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate. It allows the holder to legally transmit on an aviation air-band radio in Australia.

Why do I need an AROC?

Whether you need an AROC depends on the type and location of your drone operations. It is required when you need to transmit on aviation radio, including coordinated operations near controlled airspace and aerodromes.

How much does it cost?

AROC is included in ACE Aviation Aerospace Academy’s RePL course packages. Please contact our team for current course options and pricing.

If I have an AROC, does that cover everyone in my organisation?

No. Each person who needs to use aviation radio must hold their own current AROC.

If I fly in the excluded category, do I need an AROC?

Flying in the excluded category does not automatically require an AROC. However, you will need one if your operation requires you to transmit on aviation radio. AROC training also helps pilots understand aviation communication, radio procedures and aircraft activity around airfields.

What is ELP and why do I need it?

ELP stands for English Language Proficiency. To obtain an AROC, applicants must demonstrate that they can speak and understand English to the required aviation standard. ACE Aviation Aerospace Academy can advise you on the evidence or assessment required during enrolment.

How long does it take?

When completed as part of an ACE RePL package, AROC training is incorporated into the broader five-day program, which combines online theory with face-to-face practical training and assessment.

What will I learn?

The AROC component covers aviation phraseology, CTAF procedures, radio discipline and communication techniques. It also builds understanding of airspace, aerodrome operations and how to communicate clearly and safely with other airspace users.

Can I complete my AROC entirely online?

With ACE Aviation Aerospace Academy, theory is completed online, while exams and practical assessment are completed face to face.
